Revd Dr Eben Adu

Eben Adu is an ordained Minister of the Gospel, interdisciplinary scholar, theologian, and theological educator. He holds a BA (Hons) in Theology from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana; an MA in Missiology from the Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary in Seoul, South Korea; and a PhD in Pastoral Studies/Practical Theology from North-West University, Potchefstroom, South Africa. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership and Management from Northumbria University, England.

His doctoral research focused on African Pentecostal pastoral leadership in the context of British society, exploring the dynamics of pastoral leadership within African Pentecostal churches and their engagement with the wider British social and ecclesial context.

His academic and ministry interests span mission and missiology, particularly African diaspora mission and ministry in the West; Global Pentecostalism, with particular interest in Africa and the African diaspora; pastoral ministry and leadership, especially African neo-Pentecostal pastoral leadership in Western contexts; biblical interpretation, particularly from Pentecostal perspectives; and leadership and management, with an emphasis on developing effective and adaptive organisations and leading cross-cultural teams.

As an interdisciplinary theologian, Eben is particularly interested in the intersection between academic theology and the lived practices of the Church and Christian mission. He has written on a range of theological and missiological subjects, including the Prosperity Gospel as practised by African neo-Pentecostal leadership in Ghana, and regularly contributes to theological and ministry conversations through teaching and presentations, including on biblical interpretation from a Pentecostal perspective. His wider academic engagement has also included examining doctoral research and PhD theses.

Eben has had the privilege of serving as a pastor in churches in both Ghana and London, giving him extensive experience of predominantly African diaspora churches and their ministry contexts. Through his engagement with indigenous British multicultural churches, particularly within Pentecostal and Charismatic traditions, he has also developed significant insight into the changing landscape of Christianity in Britain. This combination of pastoral ministry, theological education and cross-cultural engagement informs his particular interest in the relationship between African diaspora Christianity and the wider British Church.

Eben previously served as Training Manager with London City Mission (LCM), where he lectured on LCM’s in-house Missionary Formation Programme and the Foundation Course, teaching across areas including Biblical Studies, Leadership, Global Pentecostalism with emphasis on Neo-Pentecostalism in the UK, and Missiological studies, among others. He also contributed training to specialist teams, particularly supporting LCM’s Diaspora Specialism.

He currently serves as a consultant to London City Mission, contributing to its training programme, and continues to serve as a Mentor on the Graduate Diploma (GDiP) programme delivered in collaboration with Union School of Theology. His mentoring and teaching have included Biblical Preaching, Pastoral Theology, and Systematic Theology.

Eben lives in Northfleet, Kent, with his family. Outside ministry and academia, he supports Manchester United and enjoys exploring food from different cultures, particularly African and Asian cuisine, with a special appreciation for Korean food.
